I chaired a round table today with CEOs from the Housing sector. Key learnings around M and A are:-

- Align your values, it’s the glue that will hold a deal together

- Be clear as a Board about what your red lines are and when to pull out of any deal

- Have a budget for coffee and wine, successful mergers are all about communication and reassurance

- Put the future ahead of the past

- When the going gets tough, review why you are doing it and the benefits

- You will need pace, energy and a 48 hour week

- A successful merger doesn’t finish on completion, it takes years to align systems, cultures and deliver real benefits and value for money
